Świętojańska is one of the streets marked out at the time of the incorporation of Warsaw, at the end of the 13th century. From the very beginning, it was one of the most important streets in the city. In a broader perspective, it was part of the Czersk-Zakroczym route, which was regulated by streets within the city walls. Within the city, it led from the southern city gate to the Market Square.
The history of Nowomiejska Street begins with the location of Warsaw. Marked from the north-west corner of Old Town Market, it led to the northern city gate, becoming an important communication artery of the city. As in the case of the area behind the southern city gate (later Krakowskie Przedmieście), over time, this area also turned into a parking and market square. However, when at the beginning of the 15th century a new city was founded - New Warsaw, the street was called Nowomiejska street, as a road connecting both cities.

I invite you on a journey through the historical history of this wonderful street. Due to the extensive material, we will divide this story into several periods.
Kamienne Schodki street is considered one of the most picturesque in Warsaw. Is that right? This can be argued. The fact is, however, that you can meet various artists, painters and photographers here. Especially this place is favored by young couples, who after the ceremony at the Wedding Palace go to the stairs for photo sessions.
Shoemaker, guild master, councilor, participant in conspiracies, memoirist, colonel, and finally the leader of the townspeople during the Kościuszko Uprising. It's hard to count all the roles played by this Warsaw townsman in his life. However, they were so important, and at the same time symbolic, that today at Podwale stands a pedestal in his honor, i.e. Jan Kiliński Monument.
